Pennsylvania residents—keep ICE detention facilities out of Berks and Schuylkill Counties! Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Administrative Order against DHS for their proposed use of two warehouses in Berks and Schuylkill Counties as ICE dentition facilities. Aside from human rights implications, the proposed detention centers would be a massive strain on water and sewage infrastructure of both towns. They would be untenable and unable to accommodate the number of people in the area. For that reason, DEP rightly refused permits for them. We need Pennsylvania DEP and Governor Josh Shapiro to hold firm against this proposition and enforce environmental laws and protect our communities from this proposal. HB2151 Is Still Moving Through The PA Legislature and We Need You To Say No AGAINThe bill language has changed but its issues have not:• The removal of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) as the author of a model ordinance is an improvement, but replacing it with the Local Government Commission is still a concern. Legislators are split across the board on their positions on data centers, so whose interest will this ordinance be written for?• The current language states that municipalities can opt out of using the specific language of the model ordinance, but then what is the need for a law in the first place ? The concern continues industry could cite to the model ordinance to challenge communities in how they have or have not implemented a similar ordinance. • The state can provide model ordinance guidelines right now, there is no need to pass legislation to do so.Call Your Representatives Todaybit.ly/FINDMYPAREP ...
